Seems like Big Daddy Bert is at it again….
St. Croix Elections Board Chair Adelbert Bryan was called out into the spotlight during a meeting last week, where other board members said he had been abusing his powers as the chair and making independent decisions to spend the board’s money and act on its behalf and they have had enough.
Rupert Ross Jr. made some motions that put some of Bryan’s actions into question and resulted in the board supporting the motions to establish policies that would limit Bryan’s actions.
In his first motion, Ross asked the board to vote to advise Bryan that he is not authorized to drive the Elections System’s vehicles – specifically the passenger van – because he is not covered under the insurance.
Ross’ second motion was for the board to order Elections Supervisor Caroline Fawkes not to spend any of the board’s funds based on sole requests from Bryan, saying that she had done so with renting a car for him, hiring an assistance and purchasing locks for the door.
The final motion was to ask Bryan to stop using the Election System’s official letterhead for his personal use.
Bryan, however, scoffed at the requests that were all passed by the board. He said he was not going to adhere to what the board had voted in favor of, saying that he was an elected official and could use the van when he wanted. He said he would not stop using the letterhead because it was there to be used and dared the other members to call law enforcement officials if they thought that he and Fawkes were doing something that was illegal with the board’s money.
Big Daddy Bert’s actions were not a surprise to many, in fact, some residents said on local talk radio that they could have predicted that Bryan would have reacted in that way. He is obviously delusional if he believes that he can run the board single handedly and does not needs any input from other members.
He has strong backbone and perhaps should share some with Fawkes who seems to lack in that area and has never stood up to him.
Bryan seems to be obsessed with the office and his position and it is only a matter of time before I really find out if he is actually sleeping at the Elections Office.
It seems no matter what time of the day – including on weekends – that you drive by the office, his big hillbilly truck is parked in the lot.
It’s no secret that there a major issues that need to be addressed before the General Election in November, but it is another tings for Big Daddy Bert to realize that he is not the be all and end all of the system.
It seems though that he can hold hands with St. Thomas-St. John member Wilma Marsh Monsanto, as she too seems to be displaying behavior along the lines of that of a psychotic individual.
Last week, the board in that district voted to suspend her dereliction of duty for refusing to attend an Aug. 18 meeting to certify the primary election results.
She wrote a letter to the board saying she will not abide by the suspension and will continue to show up to meetings and attempt to participate.
She told local media that if any of the members try to touch her, she will spray them with mace. WHAT????
Yep, that’s what she said. She said she will bring her team and won’t leave the meetings because she was elected to do a job and only the people who elected her can fire her.
The soap opera that is the V.I. joint board of elections with mini series in their districts boards is heating up with November Sweeps on the way. IT seems like the out of control board memebrs look forward to showing off when they know the public is paying most attention.
Elections is less than a month away, and there are so many unanswered questions on how they are moving forward on important issues such as absentee and early voting. Lets not even begin to talk about the blindfolded carousel ride of whether they are permitting to put Chucky “The Gyanster” Hansen on the ballot of the upcoming elections. But that is another topic for another day, my beer just isn’t cold enough to start that discussion.
When it is all said and done, the voters have decisions to make come November and a few of them is whether or not they plan to replace some of the members of the sitting board in each district. Some of seen the writing on the wall and are not seeking reelection, but I bet my Sandy Bottoms that voters will go ahead and recycled the others who are seeking reelection, perhaps to the detriment of the system as they start a new cycle of business down the toilet as usual.
